Post-diagnostic services

Identity & family support

A diagnosis can be the beginning of a powerful journey of self-understanding. These sessions work directly with children and adolescents to build an affirming understanding of how their brain works, what makes them brilliant, and where they might need support. Families receive practical guidance to create environments where their child can truly thrive.

Who is this for?

Young people making sense of a new diagnosis, families navigating neurodivergence at home, extended family learning to understand a child's brain, and siblings building awareness of how brains work differently. Whether you need help processing what a diagnosis means, implementing strategies at home, or explaining neurodivergence to grandparents, these sessions provide practical, personalised support.

My approach

A diagnosis without understanding is just a label. These sessions bridge the gap between receiving a diagnosis and genuinely embracing it, for the young person and their whole family. Drawing on both clinical expertise and lived experience navigating neurodivergence, I provide practical, realistic support that fits your unique family dynamics, values, and circumstances.

Together, we'll translate assessment findings into a narrative that empowers your child, and into strategies that strengthen your entire family system.

Fees

Identity & Family Support sessions

$270 per hour

Sessions can focus on identity exploration, understanding diagnoses, implementing assessment recommendations, sibling support, family routines, emotion regulation, and transition planning. Fees are aligned with APS guidelines.

I work with the young person, the whole family, just parents, or individual family members depending on what's most helpful. Sessions are available via telehealth across Victoria and in-person on the Mornington Peninsula. NDIS funding may be available for eligible participants (self-managed only).

Common questions

How many support sessions do families typically have?

This is a session-based service, and is entirely based on your needs. We will have a discussion about your goals for sessions, and work together to make a plan about how best to address them. Many families opt to have a single additional session, and others find that a few sessions are helpful to build understanding.

Do you work with the whole family or just parents?

I can work with the whole family, just parents, or individual family members depending on what's most helpful. Many families start with parent-only sessions and then include children and siblings as appropriate.

Is family support covered by Medicare or NDIS?

Family support may be covered under NDIS funding for eligible participants, as long as your child's goals align with the session content. At the current time, I am able to provide NDIS therapeutic services for self-managed participants only. Medicare rebates may apply for some family consultation sessions. I can provide guidance on funding options during our initial discussion.

Can you help with strategies for specific behaviours?

Yes, I can help develop strategies for specific challenges like meltdowns, transitions, sleep issues, school avoidance, and daily living skills. We focus on understanding the 'why' behind behaviours and developing positive, neurodivergent-affirming approaches.
